Featuring another stunning work of art from acclaimed artist and Martin board member Robert Goetzl, the third model in our Earth Day series takes us back to the depths of the ocean, in the waters off the coast of Hawaii, where humpback whales raise their calves. Researchers are working around the clock to create an environment there thats safe for humpbacks to raise their young, providing safety from manmade dangers like plastic pollution, vessel collisions, and climate change.This model is a tribute to the Keiki Kohola Project – Caring for Calves in Maui Waters (caringforcalves.org), a nonprofit that promotes the protection of humpback whale mother and calf pairs during their time in Hawaiian waters. C. F. Martin & Co. has made a generous donation to its cause. This model is FSC certified and 100% plastic-free, following the precedent set by our previous two Earth Day models, the 00L Earth guitar and OM Biosphere. Like the OM Biosphere, it’s compliant with the Preferred by Nature (PBN) Sustainability Framework Standards and will be adorned with the PBN Hummingbird Seal. Even the softshell case is sustainable – made from hemp. The most environmentally friendly guitar on the market, the DSS Biosphere II is a satin sloped shoulder Dreadnought with a spruce top and sapele back and sides, giving you a warm and mellow tone rounded out by powerful mids, bright and airy trebles, and plenty of volume. It also features certified European flamed maple binding, a select mahogany modified low oval neck, and an ebony bridge, headplate, and fingerboard with sapele dot inlays.
